A Pillar of Her Community

Eighteen years ago, Jamie Mitchell, CMP,  joined the meetings and events industry as the group sales manager for the Hampton Convention & Visitor Bureau. After that, she was hooked—CVBs continued to be her place of employment.

An RCMA member, Jamie had her last day as the convention sales manager at the Virginia Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau on Wednesday, and on Monday starts her new position as events director at Believers Church, a church she’s been worshiping at for several years. Over time, the church has experienced significant growth and felt the need to expand. It was determined that the best course of action was to build a new church and make it accessible for events, meetings, conferences and more. The new church is located 7 miles from the current building; construction is almost complete.

“We have grown consistently over the past decade and reached the point that our ministries were being compromised simply because we were running out of space,” she says. “When I learned that the building was going to be used as a ministry to help introduce people to the church, while also providing additional income to fuel ministries, I knew I wanted to be a part of it.”

The building has been named Hub 757 because the church wants it to be the hub of the community. Conveniently, it will be just minutes from Jamie’s home. With her experience, she’s poised to be a smashing success.

“With my background in the hospitality field it was a natural progression and a great fit for my skill set,” she says. “I love serving my community and felt this was a need in our area that wasn’t being met, and I’m so excited to be a part of it.”
